Airbnb Enhanced Cleaning for Hosts

Airbnb Enhanced Cleaning for Hosts from MaidThis.com

Like everyone in the hospitality industry, Airbnb is making some important changes to its cleanliness guidelines. While cleaning has always been an obvious “front and center” issue, it’s now even more of a concern thanks to the coronavirus that just won’t go away.

Having a visibly clean home is great, but these days, it’s simply not enough. A safe listing is a sanitized listing and the best way to achieve that is by following Airbnb’s new guidelines as outlined in their Cleaning Quick Start Guide.

Here are a few things to know about the new “normal” for turnover cleanings and how to snag the new Airbnb enhanced cleaning badge of honor.

Cleaning vs. Sanitizing

We’ve said it before: Though there’s a tendency to use these two words interchangeably, “cleaning” and “sanitizing” don’t actually mean the same thing. Here’s a quick primer.

“Cleaning” means you’re removing dirt and other debris from a surface. Think of when you wipe down your kitchen counters or table after preparing and eating a meal: There are likely a few food splatters that made their way out of the pan or off the plate and you’ll wipe them away with a soapy sponge or rag.

When cleaning, you’re removing things from surfaces that aren’t a real danger to you or anyone else – they’re not likely to make you sick.

“Sanitizing,” on the other hand, means you’re doing more than just removing dirt – you’re breaking down and removing germs and other harmful particles that have made their way onto surfaces. This requires more than just the average soap-and-sponge cleaning method; you should be using chemicals with disinfecting agents to kill those kinds of particulates.

To achieve a truly “safe” turnover, you should be both cleaning and sanitizing your vacation rental.

The 5-Step Cleaning Process behind Airbnb Enhanced Cleaning

Airbnb (and, incidentally, MaidThis) has a straightforward 5-step process for turning over vacation rentals.

1. Prepare

Prep everything you’re going to need to clean. This includes ventilating rooms, compiling all necessary supplies, washing hands before starting to clean and sanitize, and wearing (ideally disposable) PPE.

2. Clean

Start the turnover off right by dusting and cleaning all the surfaces with gentler solvents to remove dirt and debris from surfaces so you can better disinfect in the next step. Take out the trash if guests left any behind, start the laundry and wash linens in hot water, and vacuum or sweep the floors.

It’s also important to wash all the dishes and cookware in the kitchen – even if they appear clean – to avoid any cross-contamination. Preferably, kitchen items should be washed in the dishwasher if you have one.

3. Sanitize

Follow up your cleaning by sanitizing all the surfaces you’ve just cleaned and areas you didn’t clean with a fine-mist disinfectant spray. Focus on high-touch areas and objects, like remote controls, doorknobs, side tables, and countertops.

4. Check

Check your list to ensure you’ve done #allthethings in #alltheplaces. Then double-check because you can never be too careful.

5. Reset and Restock

Now that everything is safe and clean, start to reset the space. Make beds, replace consumables like tissues, toilet paper, and toiletries. Remake beds and place linens in their normal spots.

As a MaidThis client, you can rest assured that our teams and partners are following Airbnb’s guidelines to a “T.” If you haven’t already, we encourage you to commit to Airbnb’s new cleaning protocol. You’ll be rewarded with a badge highlighting your listing as having an “enhanced clean.” There’s no better way to assure you’re guests you’re taking their stay – and their health – seriously.

Check out the MaidThis Covid Resource Center for tips, downloadable graphics, and more information on how to keep your guests safe during their stay.

How To Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus in Your Vacation Rental

Many business owners make the mistake of assuming that office or vacation rental cleaning in the East Bay area is basically the same as keeping your own home clean. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The reality is that rental properties are held to much higher standards of cleanliness than residential ones. This is especially true during the coronavirus crisis. Keeping your place clean is not only good for business: it’s necessary to curb the spread of this dangerous disease.

In this article, we’ll give you the crucial cleaning steps you should follow to make sure your rental property has been thoroughly disinfected against COVID-19. Read on to learn more.

What are the steps to clean and disinfect facilities/equipment to prevent the spread of the coronavirus?

Where can I book professional vacation rental cleaning in the East Bay areaCleaning during COVID-19 is all about adding disinfection into your regular cleaning routine and taking the appropriate precautions to reduce the possibility of exposure. When booking a cleaning service for your vacation rental, always choose a reputable cleaning service that follows CDC-approved guidelines

Here’s a quick 8-step guide for ensuring your property is germ-free:

Step #1

Stay safe by wearing disposable gloves and a face mask throughout the cleaning. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds before and after the cleaning. Refrain from touching your face.

Step #2

Routinely clean high-touch surfaces. Light switches, elevator buttons, handles, doorknobs, desks, tables, countertops, phones, computer keyboard and mice, touchscreens, and so on are all surfaces that have an increased risk of carrying microbes and parasites.

Step #3

Clean and disinfect. Surfaces should first be wiped down with soap and water (or a general-purpose household cleaner), and then disinfected using an EPA-certified disinfectant. Always follow the instructions on the packaging when using a new disinfectant.

Step #4

When cleaning soft surfaces such as drapes, rugs, and carpeted floors, use only the appropriate cleaning products for those surfaces. Launder cloth items at the warmest appropriate water setting and let them dry thoroughly before using them again.

Step #5

Clean electronics such as keyboards, TV remotes, touchscreens, tablets, and TVs using alcohol-based sprays or wipes with a minimum of 70% alcohol content. Dry them completely after cleaning them.

Step #6

Laundry such as linens and towels should also be washed at the warmest setting and the items should be dried completely afterward. Refrain from shaking dirty laundry to avoid spreading germs into the air and remember to disinfect and clean clothes hampers after use.

Step #7

Outdoor areas such as walkways, playgrounds, terraces, etc., can be cleaned normally. There’s no need to disinfect them, as spraying disinfectants on outdoor areas hasn’t been shown to lessen the risk of coronavirus.

Step #8

Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, hand sanitizer, and so on if needed. If you’re an Airbnb host, leaving face masks and disposable gloves for your guests’ use will leave a positive impression on your clients.

Where can I book professional vacation rental cleaning in the East Bay area?

It’s not easy being an Airbnb host during the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of having to ensure your property is regularly cleaned and disinfected, you can’t even relax by doing fun activities with your family, such as visit the Chabot Space and Science Center

That’s where MaidThis comes in. The cleaning experts we team up with are trained and equipped to provide the full range of residential and vacation rental cleaning services. Book the top cleaning in the East Bay area today or give us a call if you have additional questions.

Airbnb’s New Coronavirus Cleaning Protocol: Everything You Need to Know

Like other industries, Airbnb has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. With countless travelers canceling their trips and many hosts choosing to close their doors until the health crisis is resolved, it was only a matter of time when Airbnb would adopt changes to its policy.

In order to protect its business and its clients, the company has decided to change its rules for vacation rental cleaning during COVID-19. If you’re one of the many Airbnb hosts who are still receiving guests, you’re probably wondering what these new rules mean for you.

In the following article, we’ll explain how Airbnb cleaning in the East Bay Area has changed under the new rules, and how to go about making the most out of this new situation. Keep reading to learn more.

What does the new Airbnb coronavirus cleaning protocol entail?

The Enhanced Cleaning Protocol (which Airbnb will release next month) will include new step-by-step cleaning guidelines and list the recommended supplies, room-by-room instructions, sanitization techniques, and so on.

According to the information released in April, the hosts will be able to choose between two different cleaning programs. Hosts who adopt the new coronavirus cleaning protocol will have to agree to a 24-hour buffer after a guest checks out and before another guest checks in.

Hosts who want to be a part of the program, but can’t commit to the cleaning protocol will have to let at least 72 hours pass between the previous check out and the next check in. The goal of these booking buffers is to lessen the risk of a COVID-19 infection.

How do I find an Airbnb cleaner during the coronavirus pandemic?

Where can I book professional Airbnb cleaning in the East Bay areaWhen you come right down to it, being an Airbnb host is a business, and all businesses require professional cleaning in order to keep their clients happy and their premises hygienic. To do otherwise is to risk receiving negative ratings from dissatisfied guests, or possibly even getting penalized by Airbnb.

Look for the following traits when hiring a cleaning service during COVID-19:

They follow CDC-approved cleaning guidelines

Their cleaners should wear face masks throughout the cleaning and carefully wash their hands for 20-30 seconds before and after the cleaning. They should also maintain a 6 feet distance from you and the other members of your household to reduce the chance of infection.

They practice proper cleaning and disinfection routines

Expert cleaners should bring their own supplies with them, and make sure to only use products that have been certified by reputable organizations. They should also take special care to clean high-touch surfaces, as these are most likely to spread the virus.

These frequently-touched surfaces include:

* Light switches

* Countertops

* Doorknobs

* TV remotes

* Tables

* Toilets

* Desks

* Chairs

* Showers

* Bathtubs

* Desks

* Exteriors of appliances

Where can I book top Airbnb cleaning in the East Bay area?

We’re all dreaming of the day when this pandemic will be over and we’ll once again be able to take a carefree walk through the Kennedy Park. Until then, we must all keep doing our part in reducing the possibility of COVID-19 exposure for us, our loved ones, and our Airbnb guests.

Here at MaidThis, we’d like to lend you a helping hand. As soon as this crisis started, we adjusted our policies in a way that ensures the cleaners we work with take every precaution and follow CDC-approved sanitization guidelines while cleaning your home or workplace.

Local Airbnb Bookings Are Surging for Summer

Local Airbnb bookings are surging for summer from MaidThis.com

Corona-cabin fever is real and plenty of people are sick and tired of looking at their own walls. While international airplane travel is definitely down and will continue to take a hit this year, local travel is making a comeback.

People with vacation time to kill may not travel across the globe, but they may travel cross-country. Airbnb is reporting a massive boost in same-country bookings compared to this time last year. According to AirDNA, an international Airbnb data analysis company, bookings in the US are continuing to inch upward.

So, what does this new little surge mean for you as an Airbnb host? Get ready now: Depending on where in the country you’re located, it could mean a helpful uptick in your bookings, too.

Folks are itching to get out of their own neighborhoods.

The extended period of local lockdowns has even the most dedicated “home-bodies” scrambling to make plans to get out of the house. Now that restrictions are lifting, we’re likely to see a slight shift in the meaning of the popularized term “staycation.” Folks may stay close to home, but not actually at home and ultimately make plans to get even a few miles down the road.

Now, more than ever, having “fancy” or high-ticket amenities is a sure way to draw in guests. People are building up some courage to leave their homes and stay in an Airbnb, yes. But they’re not as likely to be flocking to neighborhood farmers’ markets, cafes, or events (which have mostly been canceled anyway).

Things like having an above-average outfitted kitchen, a household Netflix or HBO subscription, a killer surround sound system, video gaming systems, or even a stash of “old school” games like “Clue” or “Phase 10” are sure to appeal to guests just looking to find some fresh surroundings.

Be sure to implement a deposit system through Airbnb to protect any big-ticket items you may have or plan to add to your vacation rental.

Not to mention, summer is officially here.

Many people are eager for a change of scene and summer is traditionally the time for vacations and fun. It isn’t just single people looking, either – it’s people with families.

Families are figuring out their own forms of “new normals” and chances are, many summer vacation plans that were in the works are now distant memories. Big crowd-drawers like Disneyland have made changes to how they’ll handle their own guests and will likely see massive dips in their numbers despite enacting social distancing measures.

That said, parents with youngsters who have been out of school for months now are ready for a break – even if that just means doing the same routines in a new setting and foregoing bigger vacation plans.

Again, guests are looking for different things these days: Proximity to large venues is far less important than it once was and things like parking availability are likely to rank higher on vacation rental wish lists.

As Americans continue to become more comfortable with the thought of traveling both locally and domestically, it’s becoming clearer that all is not lost for vacation rental hosts.

So, what does this information combination mean for you as a host?

Here’s our biggest piece of advice for the moment: If you haven’t already, now is a great time to accept instant bookings. Many folks are making decisions at the last minute to leave their homes for a short weekend as lockdown restrictions are lifting. By allowing guests to book instantly, you further increase the possibility of increasing your occupancy rate.

Updating a Vacation Rental for “Covid-Era” Guests

ways to update a vacation rental during coronavirus from MaidThis.com

It’s becoming more and more clear that Covid-19 isn’t going anywhere: The changes we’ve been making to our “normal” lives – including social distancing, going out less, and wearing masks in public places – are here to stay for the foreseeable future. How long we need to actually keep these measures remains a mystery, but the knowledge that they are necessary is not.

With that knowledge in hand, we all must transition away from how we operated before and start implementing new systems. As a vacation rental host, you’re likely already doing a number of things to reassure your potential guests that you care about their health and safety. As bookings pick up, however, there are a few non-health-related things you can do to potentially increase your booking rate.

Here are our 2 big tips for updating a vacation rental for Covid “era” guests.

1. Invest in some “work from home” furniture.

With the “work from home” trend now kicked into full gear, it’s pretty clear that many companies are seeing the benefits of letting their staff work outside the office. Not only is it safer in the age of coronavirus, but studies have shown for years that remote workers are more productive than those who trudge to an office space every day.

With that information in hand, it makes sense to ensure your Airbnb is remote work-friendly.

If you don’t already have a small work station set up in your vacation rental, now is the time to do it. Depending on how much space you have, you can create an entire work area for guests who will also be on the job during their stays. Add a desk, an ergonomic chair, a surge-protecting extension cord or two, and a desk lamp to your setup.

Need some inspiration? Check out these handy ideas for small office spaces and nooks from The Spruce.

2. Upgrade your kitchen basics.

Though the economy is opening back up and as a community, we need to make an effort to support local small businesses, plenty of people are still leery of going out and sitting in restaurants or cafes – and for good reason: There’s no eatery that can promise a “no-risk experience.”

So, while we can, at the very least, advocate for guests to order takeout or opt for food delivery services, you as a host can also make it easier  for them to prepare meals “at home.” This is a great option for updating a vacation rental for Covid “season.”

Take an inventory of what your Airbnb kitchen currently offers in terms of utensils and small appliances. What can you upgrade to make your guests stay more comfortable and more enjoyable to cook?

What can you upgrade?

Consider upgrading your pots and pans set – either to ones of better quality, larger sizes, or possibly adding a few extras to broaden the size range. Toss in a few extra “specialty” gadgets that might go over well, such as this OXO avocado slicer, this AdeptChef Stainless Steel Fish Spatula, or a countertop indoor grill for sandwiches, paninis, and burgers.

You could even up your coffee game and add a quality bean grinder, a milk frother, or possibly even a single-cup brewing system.

These are just a couple of ideas to better improve the quality of your guests’ stays as we all transition into what are becoming new norms in life. From going out less and eating in more to working outside of the office, ensuring you can cater to Covid-driven needs and desires is one of the best ways to further set yourself apart from other vacation rental listings and pull your booking rates closer to where they were pre-pandemic.

COVID-19 Cleaning Guidelines for Airbnb Hosts: Part II

Every successful host understands how important proper Airbnb cleaning in the East Bay is when it comes to ensuring your vacation rental garners positive reviews and returning guests. The coronavirus pandemic has taken that to the next level: expertly cleaning your Airbnb against COVID-19 can now literally save lives!

In the first part of our Airbnb coronavirus cleaning guide, we gave you a list of tried-and-true tips on how to clean and disinfect your vacation rental against COVID-19. Now we’ll explain how this improved cleaning routine reflects on your guests. Read on!

How do I help my Airbnb guests protect themselves from coronavirus?

No matter how carefree they may seem, your guests are likely worried for their wellbeing during these scary times. Like you, they probably take additional steps to protect themselves, and will be appreciative of any efforts on your part to minimize the risk of infection.

Consider doing the following:

Enable self check-in to minimize person-to-person contact

The easiest way to do this is to install a smart lock with a keypad, or a key lockbox. Let your guests know you won’t be performing any routine maintenance while they’re present.

Stock up your Airbnb with essential supplies

This includes tissues, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, as well as extra sheets and towels in case your guests are staying for a prolonged period.

Stock up on anti-coronavirus supplies

Having face masks and disposable gloves available for your guests’ use will make it easier for them to stay safe while they’re outside. This little extra step will also make them develop a more positive opinion of you as a host.

Should I tell my guests about my coronavirus cleaning routine?

Absolutely! Your guests will want to know exactly what you’re doing to keep your rental property safe from COVID-19, and that may even determine whether they choose to stay at your place, or go to a hotel or someone else’s Airbnb.

However, it’s important not to go overboard. The coronavirus is a new disease, which means that medical science still doesn’t know exactly what kills it or how it spreads. Therefore, you need to avoid making claims that your place is “100% protected against coronavirus”.

What you should do is point out that you’re taking extra care to clean and disinfect your Airbnb due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Some guests may want to know exactly what cleaning techniques you’re using, so be ready to answer those questions as well.

What should I focus on during my coronavirus cleaning?

Certain items are naturally more likely to spread disease, and require extra attention during a cleaning. That being said, you should be prepared to apply extra elbow grease and disinfect everything when cleaning an Airbnb against COVID-19. If you don’t have the time to do this, consider hiring a reputable cleaning company.

Focus on these areas during your cleaning:

* Handles of all types

* Doorknobs

* Light switches

* Tables

* Surfaces

* Lamp and fan chains

* Keys

* Railings

* Hairdryers

* Irons and ironing boards

* Keyboards

* TV remotes

* Phone chargers

* Toilets

* Bathtubs

* Faucets

COVID-19 Cleaning Guidelines for Airbnb Hosts: Part I

The coronavirus pandemic has caught us all by surprise and forced many industries into a lockdown. While some Airbnb hosts have closed their doors for the time being, many still open up their homes for local guests or provide housing for COVID-19 response teams.

If you’re one of the latter, you should consider revising your vacation rental cleaning across the East Bay to help keep yourself and your guests safe. The best way to do this is to thoroughly disinfect your vacation rental property using CDC-approved cleaning guidelines

In the following article, you’ll find out how to clean an Airbnb against the novel coronavirus, and how you can help your guests protect themselves from infection. Read on to learn more.

How do I clean my Airbnb rental against COVID-19?

It’s important to remember that keeping an Airbnb or vacation rental germ-free during the coronavirus pandemic is hard work. If you get tired or can’t find the time to do it properly, consider outsourcing the cleaning to a professional cleaner. Just make sure they follow the professional guidelines recommended within the new coronavirus cleaning protocol

Here’s how to clean your Airbnb during the coronavirus outbreak:

Protect yourself

Always wear disposable gloves and face masks while cleaning. Refrain from touching your face at any point during the cleaning (the virus can get inside your body through your eyes) and immediately wash your hands after taking off the gloves.

Ventilate thoroughly

Throw open the doors and the windows before you start cleaning. Not only will this make the place feel infinitely more fresh, it will also protect you from any emissions from your cleaning agents.

Clean first, disinfect second

Cleaning supplies such as water and soap, or household detergents, remove grime and dust, but they don’t necessarily kill germs. Disinfectants don’t remove dust and dirt, but they kill germs. Always clean first, the proceed with the disinfection.

Use appropriate products

When cleaning electronics such as screens and keyboards, use specialized wipes designed for these items. Same goes for soft surfaces such as rugs, drapes, and so on: use the appropriate cleaning product, or put them in the washing machine if possible.

Wash cloth at the warmest setting

Clothes, bed sheets, towels, blankets, mattress covers, etc., should all be washed at the highest heat setting the manufacturer recommends. Refrain from shaking dirty laundry or touching it with bare hands.

Disinfect clothes hampers and laundry baskets after each use

To make things easier for yourself, consider purchasing a disposable clothes liner or one that can be washed in the washing machine.

Empty and disinfect the vacuum cleaner after every cleaning

If your guests used other appliances such as the oven, the dishwasher, or the washing machine, consider wiping their interiors down as well.

Use disposable trash can bags that can be easily tied off at the top

This will make throwing out the garbage both easier and safer: just remember to wear disposable gloves when handling any waste.

Restock household supplies frequently

Make sure they aren’t past their expiry date. Supplying your Airbnb with disposable gloves and face masks for your guests’ use will not only help keep them safe, it’ll make them more likely to give you a good rating.
